About the Book

Rosemary’s Garden: A Photo Almanac of a Midwestern Cottage Garden is a limited-edition hardback by Collin Canright. It contains over 140 photographs of his mother Rosemary’s cottage garden in Chesterton, Indiana, organized by the four seasons. Opening quotes for each monthly chapter come from A Midwestern Almanac by Dr. Austin L. Rand and his wife, former neighbors of the Canright family.
The first edition is a limited print run of 250 hardback copies. No additional print runs are planned. Once sold out, it will not be reprinted in this format.
120 pages with over 140 photographs, organized into four seasonal sections (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter), each with three chapters — one per month. Every photograph has a caption identifying plants by their common and scientific names. An annotated bibliography lists gardening books from Rosemary’s personal library and plant books from Collin’s collection.
Australian gardener Mary Davis defines a cottage garden as “a medley of soft shapes and harmonious colors.” Rosemary’s garden fits that description beautifully — filled with native plants from Northwest Indiana and Midwestern perennial staples, planted informally and allowed to grow with natural exuberance.
