Rosemary’s Garden
A Photo Almanac of a Midwestern Cottage Garden
My mother Rosemary’s garden was never just a collection of plants. For more than six decades, it was her canvas, her sanctuary, and her legacy. This photo almanac is my tribute to her artistry — and my hope that it inspires people to appreciate the natural beauty around them, wherever they live.
“A medley of soft shapes and harmonious colors.”
Mary Davis, defining the cottage garden

For Garden Lovers & Storytellers
“I feel such joy in reminiscing about my Mom and Grandma’s gardens. I hope your book touches others like it does me.”
“For many years one of my great seasonal pleasures of walking in the old neighborhoods of Chesterton was the late Rosemary Canright’s garden. Now her son, Collin, celebrates it in a book.”
“I loved your book. Enchanted and magical paradise.”
Six Decades in One Garden
My mother Rosemary tended the garden at our family home in Chesterton, Indiana for more than sixty years — creating a cottage garden that became a neighborhood landmark.
I photographed it for over ten years. During the last year of her life, I walked with her through it, capturing her favorite views and the plants she loved most.
The book is also a tribute to my grandfather Warren R. Canright, who ran the family newspaper, and to the Rand family, whose Midwestern Almanac provides the seasonal quotes.
